فِي صَبَاحِ الْجُمُعَةِ، ذَهَبْتُ مَعَ أَبِي إِلَى السُّوقِ الشَّعْبِيِّ.
On Friday morning, I went with my father to the traditional market.
كَانَ الْبَائِعُونَ يُنَادُونَ عَلَى سِلَعِهِمْ، وَكَانَتْ رَوَائِحُ التَّوَابِلِ تَمْلَأُ الْمَمَرَّاتِ.
The sellers were calling out their goods, and the scents of spices filled the lanes.
أَعْطَانِي أَبِي قَائِمَةَ الْمُشْتَرَيَاتِ، وَطَلَبَ مِنِّي أَنْ أُرَاجِعَ الْأَسْعَارَ.
My father gave me the shopping list and asked me to check the prices.
اِشْتَرَيْنَا خُضْرَوَاتٍ طَازَجَةً وَكِيسًا مِنَ التَّمْرِ.
We bought fresh vegetables and a bag of dates.
ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُ سَجَّادَةً صَغِيرَةً ذَاتَ نُقُوشٍ جَمِيلَةٍ.
Then I saw a small rug with beautiful patterns.
سَأَلْتُ الْبَائِعَ بِأَدَبٍ عَنْ طَرِيقَةِ نَسْجِهَا، فَشَرَحَ لَنَا عَمَلَ الْحِرَفِيِّينَ.
I politely asked the seller how it was woven, and he explained the artisans’ work.
قَارَنَ أَبِي بَيْنَ سِعْرِهَا وَجَوْدَتِهَا، ثُمَّ عَرَضَ سِعْرًا مُنَاسِبًا.
My father compared its price and quality, then offered a fair price.
وَافَقَ الْبَائِعُ وَغَلَّفَ السَّجَّادَةَ بِعِنَايَةٍ.
The seller agreed and carefully wrapped the rug.
شَكَرْنَاهُ، وَحَمَلْتُ السَّجَّادَةَ وَأَنَا فَخُورٌ بِصُنْعِ الْحِرَفِيِّينَ.
We thanked him, and I carried the rug, proud of the artisans’ craft.
فِي طَرِيقِ الْعَوْدَةِ، قَالَ أَبِي: «السُّوقُ مَكَانٌ لِلتِّجَارَةِ وَلِلتَّعَرُّفِ إِلَى تُرَاثِنَا أَيْضًا.»
On the way home, my father said, “The market is a place for trade and also for learning about our heritage.”

قَائِمَةَ الْمُشْتَرَيَاتِ is an iḍāfa: “the list of purchases.” The second noun makes the whole phrase definite.
Another example: سُوقُ الْقَرْيَةِ — the village market
