ذَهَبَتْ لَيْلَى مَعَ أُسْرَتِهَا فِي نُزْهَةٍ قُرْبَ غَابَةٍ كَبِيرَةٍ.

Layla went with her family on an outing near a large forest.

وَبَيْنَمَا كَانُوا يُعِدُّونَ الطَّعَامَ، سَمِعَتْ تَغْرِيدَ طَائِرٍ بَيْنَ الْأَشْجَارِ.

While they were preparing food, she heard a bird singing among the trees.

تَبِعَتِ الصَّوْتَ قَلِيلًا، فَوَجَدَتْ طَائِرًا صَغِيرًا مُصَابًا فِي جَنَاحِهِ.

She followed the sound for a short distance and found a small bird with an injured wing.

حَمَلَتْهُ بِلُطْفٍ، وَرَبَطَتْ جَنَاحَهُ بِقِطْعَةِ قُمَاشٍ نَظِيفَةٍ.

She picked it up gently and wrapped its wing with a clean piece of cloth.

عِنْدَمَا رَفَعَتْ رَأْسَهَا، لَمْ تَعُدْ تَرَى مَكَانَ أُسْرَتِهَا.

When she looked up, she could no longer see where her family was.

شَعَرَتْ بِالْقَلَقِ، لَكِنَّهَا بَقِيَتْ هَادِئَةً وَبَدَأَتْ تَبْحَثُ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ.

She felt worried, but she stayed calm and began looking for the path.

فَجْأَةً، حَلَّقَ الطَّائِرُ أَمَامَهَا، ثُمَّ تَوَقَّفَ فَوْقَ غُصْنٍ قَرِيبٍ.

Suddenly, the bird flew ahead of her and then stopped on a nearby branch.

تَبِعَتْهُ لَيْلَى مِنْ غُصْنٍ إِلَى غُصْنٍ حَتَّى سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ أَبِيهَا.

Layla followed it from branch to branch until she heard her father’s voice.

وَصَلَتْ إِلَى أُسْرَتِهَا، فَاحْتَضَنَتْهَا أُمُّهَا وَشَكَرَتِ الطَّائِرَ.

She reached her family, and her mother hugged her and thanked the bird.

قَبْلَ أَنْ يَطِيرَ بَعِيدًا، غَرَّدَ الطَّائِرُ كَأَنَّهُ يَقُولُ: «الْمَعْرُوفُ لَا يَضِيعُ.»

Before flying away, the bird sang as if saying, “A good deed is never lost.”
